Walk and Talk

Sometimes it’s just more productive to get out of the office and move around a bit. Not everyone is completely comfortable with face to face interactions. So on nice days, let’s walk and talk.

Did you know that we learn best during the 30 minutes following exercise? Movement and learning is quite powerful. For instance, actors generally learn their lines best while walking through the blocking on stage. The movement helps cue memory. At one point in time schools had both morning and afternoon recess. The time to move and play may have actually helped kids learn more effectively than they do today. The body has wisdom, we just need to take the time to listen.

In Japan many companies start with morning stretches and take time for afternoon exercise routines as well. Studies have shown that these kinds of exercise routines improve relationships between co workers, increase productivity and reduce health care costs which results in fewer sick days.

With all that said, I just love the outdoors. Walking in nature has always been my go to in difficult times and something to look forward to when the weather cooperates. I’ve even been known to go for walks in the rain on a warm summer day. It may not be your thing, and that’s ok but if you share my passion for the outdoors or would like to give it a try I invite you to take therapy outside. Granted, there is the slight chance that someone might overhear us or come over to chat at just the wrong time but I’m willing to take that risk if you are. You can always introduce me as an old family friend if you want, I’ll never tell.
